Charles Raymond Barrows, 66, lovingly known as "Stoney," was called to his eternal resting place on November 12, 2025. He was surrounded by family who cherished him deeply, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Stoney entered this world on June 24, 1959 in Blackwell, OK, born to David D. and Linda C. Ebright Barrows. Stoney grew up in Blackwell. He met the love of his life, Pat Kreger and they were married on July 18, 1997 in Arkansas City, KS. They then made their home in Newkirk, OK.
A true warrior in every sense, Stoney faced every challenge life placed before him - from shattered hands to a broken back, numerous victories over cancer which led to his final fight with cancer - with grit, determination, and a spirit that never quit. He went down swinging, just as he lived. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Stoney lived a life marked by unwavering faith, hard work, and a heart full of love.
Stoney was a man who put his whole self into everything he did. Whether working long days or helping others without hesitation, he carried himself with quiet strength and dedication. He was a man who simply didn't know how to sit still. Hard-working, restless, and always on the move, he could be found doing anything other than resting. Whether helping someone, tinkering with a project, or staying busy with odd jobs, he thrived when he had a purpose. His strong work ethic carried him through years of service across numerous Kay County communities, where he built a reputation for reliability, kindness, and unwavering heart. In recent years, Stoney was employed at Braman's Bender Coop, before joining the law enforcement career field. In 1998, he was hired on at the Newkirk Police Department where he served for years from there, he went to Native Lights Casino, then Otoe Police Department. He worked for the Newkirk Fire Department as a reserve firefighter and Kay County Sheriff's Office as a reserve deputy. He briefly left law enforcement and was Owner and Operator of CB Tire in Blackwell before returning to law enforcement once again and finding his home at his last and final job at the Kay County Detention Center as the Transport Sergeant. This is where he was currently employed at the time of his passing.
His love for God guided his steps, and his love for his family shaped every part of his life.
A man of deep faith, Stoney loved God and wasn't shy about sharing that love with others. During his time working in the jail, he was known for inviting inmates who were getting released to attend his church, offering them hope, guidance, and a place to belong. His faith wasn't just something he practiced - it was something he lived.
Stoney loved his family fiercely. As a member of a large and tightly connected family, outings with him often meant stopping many times along the way just so he could talk to the countless friends and relatives he ran into. Stoney never met a stranger, and he made sure everyone he encountered knew they mattered. He gave out hugs as freely as he gave out his time - a simple gesture that left a lasting impact on so many.
Stoney was a man of many talents; but one talent that he loved to share with his church, family and community, was his music talent. Stoney was a member of his band The Bald Blessings, singing and playing the bass guitar.
He loved hunting, fishing, and being outdoors, but above everything else, his greatest joy was spoiling his grandkids. Nothing made him happier - giving them treats, surprises, laughter, and memories they will carry forever. To them, he was not just a grandpa, but a source of comfort, fun, and unconditional love. Being their grandfather was the role he cherished most.
Stoney leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and generosity. His busy hands, big heart, and boundless energy will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Though his battle with cancer has ended, his spirit, his laughter, and his love will carry on in the lives of those he touched.
