Elmer Cummings

Elmer James Cummings passed away on June 2nd, 2025, in Wichita, KS with his family by his side. Elmer was born in Peckham, Oklahoma to loving parents Harry T. Cummings and Helen Marie (Smith) Cumings. He attended Grant Rural School and graduated from Newkirk High School. He went on to attend business college in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. In 1959 he married the love of his life, Flossie ‘Flo’ B. Williams. Together they started a beautiful family, having 3 children.

Elmer was the owner and operator of Dagwell Dixie in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma for 18 years. He also owned a laundromat in Bethany, Oklahoma with his wife. At the age of 65 he decided he wasn’t done yet and worked at Mertz Manufacturing for 11 years. When he wasn’t working, he found a deep love and passion for farming. In 1978 Elmer returned to his family homestead after his father fell ill. Elmer would live there until his passing.

Elmer was preceded in death by parents; his wife, Flo; his son, Russell; his brother, Billy; 3 grandsons, Kyle, Chris, and Trenton; his great granddaughter, Audra; and his great grandson, Teagun.

Elmer leaves behind his son, Darrell and wife Jean; his daughter, Sharyn and husband, James; his sister, Lavonne and husband Rick Thompson; his sister-in-law, Anna Matthews; 3 granddaughters, 5 grandsons, 28 great grandchildren, 1 great great granddaughter, and numerous other family members. Elmer was loved deeply and will be surely missed.

Services for Elmer will be held at The Renfro Center in Ponca City at 2:00 pm on Thursday, June 5th, 2025. Pastor Harold Hutchison from Christ Church in Blackwell will be officiating. The burial will follow immediately at Newkirk City Cemetery in Newkirk, Oklahoma. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Hospice of North Central Oklahoma. Services are being provided by Miller-Stahl Funeral home.
