Larry Duane Stone

January 30, 1956 — August 29, 2023

Newkirk, OK

Larry Duane Stone, age 67, passed away on Tuesday, August 29th, 2023, at his residence in Newkirk, Oklahoma.

Larry was born on January 30th, 1956, in Arkansas City, Kansas to parents John (Jack) and Erma (Munday) Stone. He attended Arkansas City Schools until 1974 after which he soon joined the U.S Army. Larry’s time in the service allowed him to live in multiple locations across the United States until he was honorably discharged in 1980 at which point, he moved back home to Arkansas City. It wasn’t until later in life that he relocated to Newkirk to be closer to his children and their families.

After his time in the service, Larry spent the next 42 years on the road.  He drove semi’s for various companies including Conoco, Butler, and Glass Trucking. This passion for trucking allowed him to see many miles of beautiful countryside and ensured that he always had great stories to tell when the time came that he was no longer able to continue his work.

Larry carried an immense amount of pride in his roles as Dad and Grandpa. When it came to anything his children did, no matter how big or small, he was the proudest person in the room. He loved watching his grandchildren at all of their sporting events as they were growing up. Whether he was sitting in the stands or sitting close by in his car, he was always watching and cheering them on with his sweet tea in hand.

If you knew Larry, then you know the best word to describe him was ornery.  He liked to be social, loved a good laugh and his grandkids loved to prank him because his reactions were always much funnier than the actual prank. He loved watching football, rodeos, and anything that involved spending a little bit of time with his family.

Larry is survived by his children: Justin Stone and wife Marianna of Newkirk, OK; Cody Stone and wife Stephanie of Kildare, OK; Jeff Stone of Fort Worth, TX; Misty Bliss and husband Jason of Newkirk, OK; Sonya Carlton of Hutchison, KS; Grandchildren: Garrett Stone, Wyatt Stone and Coltt Stone, all of Newkirk, OK, Kelsey Logan and husband Shane (Kaw City, OK), Lane Stone (Kildare, OK), Ella Sanborn (Hutchison, KS), Coltan Bliss and fiancé Nicole (Bartlesville, OK), Shelby Parrish and husband Brady (Ponca City, OK) and Emmalyn Bliss (Newkirk, OK); 3 Great Granddaughters Addie, Rylie and Charolotte.  He is also survived by his siblings; twin brother Gary Stone of Wichita, KS, Edith Truscott of Sedan, KS, Johnnie Stone or Arkansas City, KS, Debra Stone- Jellison and husband Marshal of Cedar Vale, KS as well as numerous nieces, nephews, Dave Phillips and the rest of his beloved Jiffy Trip Family.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents John Stone, Erma Stone and sister, Glenda Kay Stone.
