Mary Ann Carson was born in Newkirk on March 19, 1942 to Albert and Nellie Pond Rouse and entered into rest on January 19, 2023. Mary attended Newkirk Elementary and Ok Rural School then later graduated from Newkirk High School. In 1960, Mary married Dewey Brown in Brooksville, Florida. They returned to Newkirk in 1961 and had two children, Deborah Ann and Jeffrey Dean Brown. In 1972, the family moved to Cyclone West Virginia. In 1982, Mary and the children returned to make their home in Newkirk. In October of that year, Mary married her soul mate Paul (Bud) Carson and with this union, two more children, David Elston and Tawnya Marie Carson, were brought into Mary’s life. Sometimes, God gives second chances in life and it was clear in the love that these two shared, between themselves and their children, that their relationship was a blessing.
Paul and Mary dedicated much time to raising their grandson, Jon David Lawson, then later Mary raised her great grandson Deylin Dane Lawson. She had a huge heart and was never one to turn anyone away. Mary was deeply immersed in her hobbies including gardening, creating cake masterpieces, and helping with the children at church and school, but there was nothing she loved more than her family. During the summertime, her favorite time of year, Mary could be found on her porch, enjoying the beauty of nature, digging in the dirt, watching the hummingbirds, and listening to her wind chimes. When you entered Mary’s home, you would often hear old hymns, country music, and nearly anything that Elvis sang, drifting through the house.
Mary was preceded in death by the love of her life, Paul Carson, her parents, Albert and Nellie Rouse, two daughters, Deborah Dobson and Tawnya Carson, three brothers, Lester, Richard (Bud), and Ralph Rouse.
