Mildred Janet Smith was born in Winfield, Kansas, on December 29, 1944, to Darrel J. and Winifred E. (Williams) Ames. Mildred moved to Newkirk, Oklahoma when she was five years old and was raised in rural Newkirk. She graduated from NHS in 1963 and married Homer Snell in June 1963. In June 1964, she gave birth to her only child, Cheryl. She married Jerry Smith in February 1999. They have since resided in rural Pawnee County.

Other than family, Mildred’s greatest love was dancing, reading, and fishing.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Darell and Dennis, sisters Sonya and Sharon.

Mildred is survived by her husband, Jerry of the home, brothers, Kerry and Mike, sister Deanna, daughter Cheryl, grandson Dakota, great grandson Kole, stepdaughter Saunya and her husband Bob, brother-in-law Dale Smith, and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will take place at 2:00pm, Thursday, June 11, 2026, at Newkirk City Cemetery.
