Walter Edward Sherrod Sr., passed away peacefully on July 12, 2026 in Ponca City, Oklahoma. He was born to Hazel (Carney) and Lewis E. Sherrod on June 4, 1942, in Ponca City, Oklahoma. 

Walter was known for being sweet, polite, and very stubborn. He was always willing to help others and absolutely loved his family. Some of his family's favorite memories are helping him on the farm. 

He enjoyed being a draftsman and in his spare time loved to fish. 

Walter is survived by his children; daughters Suzette (David) Westerman of Newkirk, OK and Cami (Scott) Tyberg of Perkins, OK, and son Walter (Wes) Edward Sherrod Jr. His grandchildren; Santana (Zachary) Watts of Harrah, OK, Shane M. Watts, Savanna C. Watts of Harrah, OK, Torie (Rhett) Reed, Stockton Reed, Kaddo Reed of Cushing, OK, Noah Downey of Coyle, OK, Grayce Downey of Broken Arrow, OK and Ember J. Sherrod of Tonkawa, OK. 

He is preceded in death by his mother Hazel (Carney) Sherrod, father Lewis E. Sherrod, son Anthony, and daughter Nicole.

A funeral service to honor Walter Edward Sherrod’s life will be held on Wednesday, July 16, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Church of Christ in Newkirk, OK, 328 Main Street, Newkirk, OK. Following the service, interment will take place at Newkirk City Cemetery.
