William (Bill) Grose

November 15, 1932 — January 25, 2021

William (Bill) Grose longtime farmer and rancher in the Newkirk area passed away Monday, January 25, 2021 in Ponca City. He was 88 years of age. Bill was born November 15, 1932 on a farm northwest of Newkirk to Dave Edward Grose Sr.  and Roxie Viola Grose.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, January29, 2021 in the Christ Church of Newkirk with Pastor Craig Ortwein officiating. Interment will follow in the Newkirk City Cemetery. Bill attended school in rural Kay County School K thru 1st and then transferred to a Rural country school to the 8th grade and he then attended Newkirk high graduating in 1952. While in school Bill was very active in sports playing Football, Basketball, and track in which he received numerous awards. He attended Cowley College on a football scholarship in 1954. Bill answered the call from the United States Army, and he served 2 years from 1955 to 1957. Bill returned to Oklahoma and enrolled at OSU for a year then transferred back to Cowley County Community College earning his degree in Business Administration. In 1960 Bill married Anita Faye Sanders and they moved east of Winfield, KS to raise cattle and farm.

Bill moved back to Newkirk in 1967 to farm and Custom harvesting from Texas to Canada. Bill married the love of his life Georgie and they raised 3 children; Bill Jr., Russell and Shelley. Georgie preceded him in death on December 8, 1979 after 19 years of marriage.  In 1980 Bill started to farm at the Chillaco Indian Grounds until his retirement in 2015 after 35 years. During his spare time Bill enjoyed riding competitively cutting horses for 10 years and winning several awards.

Bill was instrumental in starting the wrestling program in Newkirk in 1976. He also had received a legendary award from the Newkirk Takedown Club in 2016.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his Companion of 20 years; Sharon Hasselbring, 2 sons; William Grose Jr. and wife Brandi of Newkirk, OK Russell Grose and wife Shelli of Orlando, FL 1 daughter; Shelley Putman and husband Shawn of Winfield, KS, 1 brother; Don Grose of Arkansas City, KS 7 grandchildren; Bill Grose III, Brianne Morris and husband Aaron, Brenna Grose, Lyndsi Grose, Zachary Grose, Blake Grose and Preston Putman; 1 great grandson; Maverick Morris. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, wife Georgie Grose,2 sisters; Dorothy Riojas and Betty Boyer, 3 brothers: Ernie Grose, Loyal Grose, and Dave Grose Jr.
