Bert Backus

Bert Everett Backus Sr., 52, beloved son, brother, uncle, and husband was called to his eternal resting place on October 13, 2021. He entered this world on August 13, 1969, in Pawnee, Oklahoma, born to Freddie and Jeanie Sue Backus. He attended high school in Putnam City, Oklahoma. Bert enjoyed spending time with his family, watching wrestling, and listening to music.

He is survived by his wife, Teresa Rice, father, Freddie Backus, sisters, Brenda Robinson and Stephanie Backus, sons, Dakota and Bert, Jr., daughters Charity and Christine, uncle, Ronald Sadler, and two grandchildren, Faith and Lola and close family friend Chrissy as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Jeanie Sue, his brother, uncle, and grandparents.

Viewing will be open for the public at the J.R. McCauley Gymnasium 3251 E. River Road Newkirk, OK 74647 beginning at 1:00 pm on Monday, October 18. A funeral service will be then held on Tuesday, October 19 at 2:00 pm at the J. R. McCauley Gymnasium in Newkirk, Oklahoma with Pastor Craig Ortwein officiating. Casket bearers will be Bert Backus Jr., Dakota Backus, Trence Robinson, Quentin Brown, John Tovar, and Justin Davis. Honorary casket bearers are Cameron Marsh Jr., Pheonix Marsh, and Asher Backus.
