Paula Butler

Paula Jean Butler, 70, passed away Thursday, March 18, 2021 at Integris Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City.  Born deaf, Paula was a bright, kind and caring person who had to overcome many obstacles during her lifetime but couldn't win the battle with COVID.

She was born on August 5, 1950 to Boyd and Frances (Coleman) Butler. As a small child, Paula lived in Newkirk, OK until she reached school age, when she moved with her mother, sister and brother to Chickasha, OK to attend the Jane Brooks School for the Deaf from kindergarten to twelfth grade.  There is a quote saying, "Sign language is the noblest gift God has given to the deaf."   She remained in Chickasha until 2018 when she moved to Oklahoma City.

Paula was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Russell Butler; and sister, Joyce Fildes.  Also grandmother, Rose (Horinek) Coleman Tubbs; grandfather, Elston Coleman; and step-grandfather, B. A. Tubbs.

She is survived by Tom Baconrind a 1st cousin, nephew, Blu Bellue of Redlands, California; niece, Brooke Butler; great nieces and nephews, Bryson, Devan Ann and Kobee Bellue; Mariah Kovar, Hunter Meyer and Kami Butler, all living in Kansas; and numerous 2nd cousins.

Paula could hear the world…not with her ears, but with her heart.  "Kindness is a language that the deaf can hear and the blind can see (Mark Twain)."  She had a kindness towards all people and a lover of cats, whether her own or any strays.  Paula had a deep

faith in God and in prayer.  It was this compassion for others that caused her to always pray for anyone she found that was in need of prayer, whether she knew them well or not.

Paula's way of connecting with people and keeping updated on their lives was by writing letters and becoming long-time pen pals.  She always looked forward to finding a reply

in her mailbox.  She was blessed by many who loved and cared about her, but it was also a true blessing to those of us she called her friends and family.

Cremation has been affected under the direction of Miller-Stahl Funeral Home in Newkirk.  Interment of ashes will take place at a later date at Newkirk Cemetery.
